Dr. Philip A. Smith is the founder (2012) and managing member of MedMorph, LLC, and Chief Innovation Officer of Remote Patient Monitoring, Inc. Dr. Smith is a Board Certified Family Physician with a subspecialty in Clinical Informatics. He began his interest in the field by first automating his office practice with an electronic medical record (EMR) in 1993. He then had the opportunity to chair the physician implementation committee when his local hospital deployed its clinical information system in 1995. He co-founded a company which utilized business process modeling to map out how information flows from the point of a patient recognizing a need for medical care through the fulfillment of that care.
Dr. Smith was most the CMIO of H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. He has more than two decades of experience in healthcare IT. He began by automating his office practice with an electronic medical record (EMR) in 1993. He then chaired the physician implementation committee when his local hospital deployed its clinical information systems in 1995. Dr. Smith was a Care Transformation consultant for Cerner Corporation from 2001-2003, helping many hospitals optimize their systems or plan/implement CPOE. He served nine years with the multi-hospital Adventist Health System (AHS) as Vice President and Chief Medical Information Officer. While there, AHS successfully deployed advanced clinical information systems with CPOE, physician automation and clinical decision support. HIMSS (Health Information Management Systems Society) Analytics recognized these hospitals at either EMR Adoption Level 6 or 7.
